Prospective Student Info

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:


1.       Class starts promptly at 9am (morning sessions), 1:30pm (afternoon sessions), and 6pm (evening sessions).

2.       Bring paper, pencil/pen, and highlighter – your textbook will be issued to you on the first day of class.

3.       Dress is casual. Uniforms will be ordered and issued to you the first week of class. After uniforms are issued, you are required to wear your uniform to class (Monday-Thursday).

4.       White pants, shirt, and shoes are required for clinical – white scrubs are acceptable. You are responsible for having these items by the first day of clinical. The uniform we provide is worn during class Monday-Thursday.

5.       Attendance is mandatory.

Exit Criteria – Attendance Policy

 

A student will be dismissed from the program if he/she misses more than four (4) hours of class/lab, or eight (8) hours of clinical regardless of the reason. The four (4) hours of class/lab or eight (8) hours of clinical must be made up within five days of the absence, for the student to complete the Nurse Aide I Training Program. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the instructor and arrange to make up material and experiences missed as soon as the student returns to the school. 

 

Inclement Weather Policy: Course hours missed due to inclement weather equal to or less than four (4) hours per session do not have to be made up, but all missed conduct will be made up. If course hours missed exceeds four hours per session hours must be made up.

 

Successful completion of the program is dependent upon the student completing the minimum hours of instruction per program.  Individuals absent on the day of a test or final exam will be permitted to take the exam/test, at a time arranged by the instructor. The test or exam must be taken within 3 days of the absence. 


Refund Policy

Students will or will not receive refunds based on the following guidelines

 

A refund will not be given except under the following circumstances:

 

A 100% refund (minus application, background check, and textbook fee if issued) will be given if the student officially withdraws prior to the first day of class as noted on the school calendar. Also, the student is eligible for a 100% refund (minus application fee) if the class in which the student is officially registered is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment.

 

A 75% refund (minus all student fees) will be given if the student withdraws from class prior to:

  • the 5th day of a Nurse Aide I Course
  • the 5th day of the Nurse Aide II Morning Course or the 10th day of the Nurse Aide II Evening Course
  • the 25 percent point of any other course

To comply with applicable federal regulations regarding refunds: federal regulations regarding refunds supersede state regulations.

 

If the student is dismissed from the program(s) due to academic integrity code violation a refund will not be given.

 

If the student is dismissed from the program(s) due to absences without notification and/or absences greater than four (4) class/lab hours or eight (8) clinical hours a refund will not be given.

 

If the student knowingly withholds information that will deem him/her in-eligible for enrollment/admission, the student forfeits all monies paid to Nurse Aide Institute of Excellence.

 

Classroom Expectations

 

Instructor Expectations

 

Be on time – class starts promptly

Be in class when attendance is taken – if you are not in the classroom when attendance is taken you will be marked “absent”

Be prepared everyday - have ALL assignments completed, the correct notebook, textbook, #2 pencil (s), and black pen (s), as well as any other required materials.

Classroom dress code in effect at all times.

Be courteous at all times – inappropriate behavior will not be accepted and is grounds for dismissal from the program

Appointments should be scheduled during around class and clinical hours.

Call your instructor at least 30 minutes prior to class if you are going to be late or absent. If you are absent without notification you will be dismissed from the program.

 

 

Grading

Exit Criteria – Passing Grade for the Practical (Laboratory and Clinical)

Components of the Nurse Aide I Training Program

 

 

To successfully complete the training program, the student must achieve a minimum passing grade of 80% in the theory component. The theory grade will be based on the following:

                             The theory grading scale includes:

                                    A = 93-100

                                    B = 85-92

                                    C = 78-84

                                    D = 70-77

                                    F = 69 and below

 

 To successfully pass clinical, students must demonstrate unassisted, 80% mastery of all skills based on identified elements for each skill as outlined in the State Approved Curriculum.  To pass the practical (laboratory and clinical) portion of the Nurse Aide or Personal Care Aide Training Programs, the individual must be proficient in demonstrating all skills. Proficiency is defined as the ability to perform a skill in competent and safe manner. All skills included in this course must be successfully performed prior to completion of the training program.

 

Student Conduct

 

Nurse Aide Institute of Excellence reserves the right to maintain a safe and orderly educational environment for students and staff. Therefore, when in the judgment of faculty, a student’s conduct disrupts or threatens to disrupt the class, lab, or clinical setting appropriate disciplinary action will be taken to restore order.

 

Nurse Aide Institute of Excellence maintains a high standard of academic integrity code. Conduct that violates this code may include, but not limited to cheating, falsification, plagiarism, or abuse of academic materials. Any student who violates the academic integrity code is subject to disciplinary action which may include, but not limited to entry of the incident in the student record, reduced grades, and dismissal from the program.

 

 

 

 Program Re-entry - Student Re-entry after Dismissal

Students dismissed from the program due to misconduct or infraction of the academic integrity code cannot re-enter the Nurse Aide I Training Program at Nurse Aide Institute of Excellence. The student will be dismissed with status of not eligible for program reentry.

Students dismissed due to poor attendance will be considered for re-entry into the program 90 days after the student was dismissed from the program.  The student must meet with the instructor and/or program coordinator to obtain approval for re-entry first.  Upon approval, the student can begin the admission process.  Note: Effective March 1, 2009 – upon re-entry, the student will be required to re-pay all tuition and fees. Tuition and fees paid previously will not be applied to future classes.  


Clinical Information and Expectations

 

When: Every Friday or Saturday (as scheduled)

Where: DePaul Easttowne 4815 N. Sharon Amity Rd., Charlotte NC 28205 

Time: 8a-4:30p

Attire: Blue apron, name badge, white shirt, white pants, white comfortable shoes  

Parking: Students must park in the Pentecostal Church parking lot at the corner of

              Shamrock and N. Sharon Amity Roads (closest to DePaul Easttowne)

Student Expectations

  1. Be on site by 7:45am. Clinical begins promptly at 8am. You may wait in your car or inside the building in the TV room (only).
  2. Be in uniform (see attire for details). Students must wear blue aprons and have name badges in clear view during clinical hours.
  3. Be prepared – have second hand watch, note pad, pen, folder, and textbook.
  4.  Do not perform any “hands on” resident care without the RN instructor’s permission. Once the student has been checked off on a skill(s) (in the clinical setting) the student can perform that skill(s) with their assigned resident. Always ask permission before providing care to a resident that has not been assigned to you.
  5. Follow standard/universal precautions at all times. Wash your hands upon entering the building and when leaving the building.
  6. Use good body mechanics at all times. Never hesitate to ask for assistance.
  7. Treat facility staff members, RN instructors, residents, visitors, and fellow students with respect.
  8. Do not leave the building without permission.
  9. Direct questions or concerns to the RN instructor – not facility staff members.

 

Student Nurse Clinical Etiquette:

  1. Do not wear gloves in the hallway.
  2. Clean and dirty linen are transported in the hallway in plastic bags.

Eating and drinking are only permitted during breaks and lunch. Designated areas include the TV room, break room,  or in the parking lot.
